The National Council for Reconciliation will be an independent, Indigenous-led, non-political, not-for-profit organization whose purpose is to advance reconciliation between Indigenous and non-Indigenous people in Canada.

About the National Council for Reconciliation

The National Council for Reconciliation Act came into force on July 2, 2024. The Council, incorporated under the Canada Not-for-profit Corporations Act on March 3, 2025, and is governed by a board of directors.

The Assembly of First Nations, Inuit Tapiriit Kanatami, the Métis National Council, and the Native Women's Association of Canada may each nominate a candidate to the board of directors. These 4 positions will remain open until filled by a selected nominee from each organization.
